BAC Contig Construction

Using the KeyMaps technology, individual BAC clones are fingerprinted and a physical map is constructed.

Its Value
BAC contig construction using KeyMaps has the following advantages:

  • the resolution of the BAC contigs is very high since all +0/+0 fragments are physically mapped;
  • the coverage of the physical map is accurately known;
  • minimal tiling paths of BACs can be easily identified;
  • the KeyGene database management and data processing software allows user-friendly analysis and greatly facilitates the further development and exploration of the physical map.

Example
KeyGene has carried out a wide range of BAC contig construction projects. The Apophys (potato) and the international tomato initiative projects consist a.o. of BAC contig construction of a large part of both genomes. KeyGene has also performed smaller projects for clients that needed clarification of alleged contigs consisting of a limited number of BAC's.
