Improving drought resistance: pectinesterase
For plants with increased drought resistance by impairing the expression of functional pectinesterase.
KeyGene reference: P113
Invention
The invention provides for plants with increased drought resistance by impairing the expression of functional pectinesterase and a method producing the same.
Benefit
Although improvements in providing abiotic stress-tolerant plants have been reported, the nature of the genetically complex mechanisms underlying it causes a constant need for further improvements in this field. Our invention provides for a loss-of-function mutant, resulting in increased drought tolerance in crops like tomato, cabbage, and rice.
Vision
Climate change urges the development of drought-tolerant crops. The present invention contributes thereto.
