Program Scientist/Team leader Software development

KeyGene’s Crop Data Science department is the company’s central hub for the development and application of advanced data analytics for crop improvement.

This crucial work contributes to the quality and success of our support to our partners to accelerate their breeding and crop innovation. With a strong interdisciplinary and enthusiastic team, we design, build and apply highly innovative methods using systems biology, machine learning and artificial intelligence, to tackle a diversity of data challenges in genomics, trait research, digital phenotyping, and breeding.

Our technologies directly respond to the demands of our customers to transform and accelerate their crop improvement.


As Program Scientist/Team leader you will be responsible for:

  • Strategic innovation and R&D programs in the field of software development, data science and cloud computing. This includes leading the initiation, acquisition of projects and the overall project management.
  • Shaping the R&D portfolio of your field of expertise. This involves designing programs aimed at the development of novel frameworks and applications, including novel Intellectual Property, and commercial application of the technology.
  • A good collaborative engagement with other R&D teams. You will contribute to a good relation and communication with other teams within KeyGene, as well as with international partners.
  • Leading an innovative research team of 8 – 10 scientists.

You will report to the Vice-President Crop Data Science and will be part of the management team of the Crop Data Science department.

Your profile

  • PhD in Data Science, Cloud computing or a related computational field
  • Internationally recognized scientific leader with a global network
  • Thorough experience in the field of developing R&D (cloud) software solutions
  • Strong and inspiring vision on research and innovation within the field of (cloud) software frameworks that enable R&D researchers and data scientists in there every day work
  • Ability to translate challenges and opportunities into cutting-edge R&D programs
  • Ambitious and enthusiastic team player, inspiring and engaging leader
  • Entrepreneurial and customer-oriented
  • Proven leadership and project management skills
  • Excellent communication skills in English and across all levels of expertise
