Invention

The invention relates mutant Musashi RNA-binding protein 2 (Msi2) proteins, nucleic acid sequences encoding these mutants, and plants comprising these mutants which can function as a haploid inducer lines.

Benefits

The mutant of the invention can be used to produce haploid inducer lines. Upon crossing with a haploid inducer line, haploid offspring can be produced comprising only the genome of one of the parents. Subsequent chemical or spontaneous genome doubling will result in doubled haploid (DH) seedlings.

Vision

DH is a tool for breeders that can be used in the fast identification of traits of interest. By preventing heterozygosity, traits are fixed, thereby greatly facilitating and reducing time for plant breeding and selection for beneficial traits.
